Customs clearance, tiered by origin

CLX runs its own customs brokerage on all standard work, so clearance is handled by the same team moving your freight. Brokerage is tiered by origin to reflect documentation complexity: US-origin entries start at $75.00 for the first line, and non-US origin — Europe, China, the UK, and elsewhere — starts at $125.00, each plus $10.00 per additional line item.

Government duties, VAT, environmental levies, and Other Government Agency (OGA) permit fees are passed through at cost. Where CLX advances duty on your behalf, a Customs Disbursement Fee of 3% of duty applies, with a $25.00 minimum, so cargo clears without waiting on your own wire to Customs.

FAQ

Brokerage — common questions

How much does customs clearance cost through CLX?

Brokerage is tiered by origin. US-origin entries are $75.00 for the first line item plus $10.00 per additional line; non-US origin (Europe, China, the UK, and elsewhere) is $125.00 for the first line plus $10.00 per additional line. Government duties, VAT, environmental levies, and OGA permit fees are passed through at cost on top of the brokerage fee.

Do I have to wire the duty to Customs myself before my cargo clears?

No — CLX can advance the duty on your behalf so cargo clears without waiting on your own payment to reach Customs. Where we front the duty, a Customs Disbursement Fee of 3% of the duty applies, with a $25.00 minimum.

Can you clear a vehicle or heavy equipment?

Yes. Vehicle and heavy-equipment brokerage is $150.00 per unit, and that includes VIN verification and Road Traffic coordination. It's handled by the same in-house desk that runs your freight, so there's no hand-off to a third-party broker.

My shipment is food, agriculture, or pharmacy goods — do you handle the government permits?

Yes, OGA (Other Government Agency) permits — Foodstuff, Agriculture, BAHFSA, Pharmacy Council, and others — are handled in-house at $125.00 for the first line plus $10.00 per additional line, with the government fees themselves passed through at cost. For project cargo, oil & gas, or government RFP work, OGA permits are billed at a flat $150.00 per line under the Project Cargo Rate Override instead.

What happens if Customs flags my shipment for examination?

A CLX broker attends the examination with you. Customs Examination Attendance is billed at $150.00 per hour with a 2-hour minimum, and that rate includes both the broker and equipment standby. Any additional government fees arising from the exam are passed through at cost.
