Lowboy Transport

When standard tariff doesn't apply

Project cargo, out-of-gauge (OOG) moves, oil & gas support, large industrial equipment, and any load requiring engineering, route survey, permits, or specialized equipment are priced bespoke under the CLX Project Cargo Rate Override. Standard trucking tariff does not apply to this work.

Each assignment carries a minimum 25% project margin, rising to as much as 35% where risk, bonding, and compliance burden warrant. We plan the move before we price it — bridge and clearance assessment, lift points, and escort routing are scoped up front rather than discovered on the road.

Process

How a project moves to quote

Submit your cargo specifications — dimensions, weight, origin, destination, and lift points — and CLX issues a Project Pricing Proposal within 5 business days, valid for 30 days. Acceptance triggers a Project Engagement Letter and a 30% mobilization deposit.

The balance is billed against project milestones, with final settlement within 30 days of completion. Where a heavy lift exceeds 30 metric tonnes, an engineering lift plan is required before mobilization.

FAQ

Lowboy Transport — common questions

What counts as a lowboy or project cargo move?

Anything out-of-gauge or over-dimensional — large industrial equipment, oil & gas support cargo, government project loads, or any move that needs engineering, a route survey, permits, or specialized equipment. This work is priced under the CLX Project Cargo Rate Override, so the standard trucking tariff does not apply.

What does a lowboy move cost?

Standard out-of-gauge project trucking runs $400–$600 BSD per move, and heavy haul runs $800–$1,500 per move including pilot-car coordination. Every job is quoted bespoke — we plan the move before we price it, so surveys, permits, and escorts are scoped up front rather than discovered on the road.

Do you handle the permits and police escorts, or do I?

We handle all of it. Permits across Road Traffic, Ministry of Works, and the RBPF are billed at cost plus 10% per agency, and pilot car / police escort runs $3.00 per mile plus standby with RBPF coordination handled by CLX.

My equipment weighs more than 30 tonnes — what changes?

Any heavy lift over 30 metric tonnes requires an engineering lift plan before mobilization, priced $3,000–$15,000 by engagement. A route survey ($1,500–$5,000) covering bridge and clearance assessment is how we confirm the load can actually make the trip.

How fast can I get a quote, and what are the payment terms?

Send your cargo specs — dimensions, weight, origin, destination, and lift points — and CLX issues a Project Pricing Proposal within 5 business days, valid for 30 days. Acceptance triggers a Project Engagement Letter and a 30% mobilization deposit, with the balance billed against project milestones and final settlement within 30 days of completion.
